+ having neighbours who have a sense of pride in the community
+ the constant companionship of pets and their ability to keep the lonely feeling needed
+ getting to see other family traditions when becoming part of a couple
+ loyal , longtime friends

+ movies which are better than I expected them to be before I'd seen them
+ my surprising capacity for public speaking , something many more outgoing types lack
+ projects I can work together with my love, Cinnamon, on
+ e-bay, etsy and the like that have created a new era of free enterprise
+ birthdays and how they provide the power of looking backwards and forwards simultaneously
+ seeing people really get enjoyment out of gifts I'd given
+ having enough to eat, a simple thing too often taken for granted
+ being able to cook a few things well (though my family might dispute that!)
+ having a brother , even if we're not overly close

+ rare days when everyone around seem cheery
+ newspapers which cover both sides of issues and deal with them fairly
+ days when I get lots of things crossed off the 'to do' list
+ modern medicine and how survival rates for various diseases have increased even in my lifetime
+ good weather at Christmas and other holidays when people need to travel all over
+ knowing enough about a few things to be considered an 'expert'
+ knowing enough to know what I'm not an expert in
+ having someone who's thankful for having me in her life
+ the internet and how it puts people together with similar interests who'd not meet otherwise
+ parents who will actually say 'No' to young kids
+ the book "Quiet" which validated my comparative introvertedness
+ networks that run old TV series and movies so none are really ever gone forever
+ trains, my enjoyment of them and how it helped my Dad and I bond when I was little
+ stores and other businesses that close on holidays to let their staff enjoy the day
+ Art on Elm (and other similar shows) that let people like me showcase my art to the public
+ meeting people who are inspired by my art or my writing
+ foods from all over the world being so readily available now
+ faith in its various forms and how it gives people strength in tough times
+ having a Valentine on Valentine's Day
+ TV shows that make me laugh
+ first responders who are fearless answering calls
+ having compassion for others and for others who do as well
+ common sense, an uncommon commodity
+ David Marsden, the music he's introduced and the community of music fans he brought together
+ casual touches from people I love
+ getting daily exercise by walking the dog
+ the nice clean feeling just after shaving
+ having the ability to think before I speak...most of the time
+ little reminders of home, like Tim Horton's coffee in supermarkets or "Murdoch Mysteries" on TV
+ the show "Fixer Upper" and how it's improving the image of my adopted city
+ how little things can add up to big solutions to problems
+ for rain, something California must now be learning to appreciate
+ my love of reading not to mention being able to
+ having reliable transportation available
+ when normal routines resume after holidays (how else would the holiday be special, anyway?)
+ holidays which give families excuses to get together
+ families that don't think they need an excuse to get together
+ politicians who work towards building a concensus rather than sticking to dogma
+ the occasional lazy day now and then
+ my natural cautioness as well as my willingness to take chances when needed
+ the power of word of mouth to build up good services
+ the feeling of accomplishment when I finish a project
+ when prayers seem to be answered
+ seeing interesting scenes in the everyday and being able to share them with others
+ sunrises that make it worth getting up early!
+ things I"m not scared of that most people are (like snakes for example)
